Our History

The church was chartered in 1919 with eight charter members and they called the church the Belmont Church of God. John McCarn was the pastor. They built a building with a sawdust floor on South Eighth Street near the railroad tracks.

The church grew and has inhabited several buildings. In 1940 the church moved to 315 Church Street and became known as the “East Belmont Church of God.”  In December of 1993, the church moved into its present location at 320 Catawba Street.

The Lord has been faithful, accomplishing His work in the hearts of men and women. Through the years, the membership has helped start churches as far away as Lenoir, NC and as near as here in Belmont. Twenty four pastors have served this church. Dr. Tom Tatum is currently serving as Senior Pastor.
